Woman dead, man injured in Entertainment District shooting

A 32-year-old woman has died following a shooting outside a nightclub in Toronto’s Entertainment District.

Toronto police said they were called to a shooting at C Lounge at 456 Wellington St. W., near Spadina Avenue, just after 3 a.m. on Tuesday.

Witnesses who were inside C Lounge at the time told 680News they heard several gunshots outside the club.

Relatives and a friend confirmed on Tuesday that the victim was Jelena Loncar of Toronto. Toronto police confirmed her identity on Wednesday.

A 25-year-old man remains in serious condition after undergoing surgery. Toronto police said the man received at least six gunshot wounds to the upper body.

Loncar was shot once in the chest.

Both victims were rushed to hospital, where the woman was later pronounced dead.

The man managed to make his way to a Shell gas station on Spadina, where he was found by paramedics.

Toronto police have created a webpage where people can submit videos and images related to the incident.

At a news conference on Tuesday morning, Det. Robert Choe said it’s not yet known if the shooting was targeted or how many shooters were involved.

“It’s still early on [in the investigation] and that’s yet to be determined. We’re not ruling anything out at this point,” Choe said.

Police have not said if the two victims were patrons at the bar but that “they were in the vicinity.”

Choe also said the man is known to police.

There’s no word on any arrests, and police are asking for witnesses to come forward.

The victim is the city’s 27th homicide of the year.
