Air Canada Jazz flight makes emergency landing in Ottawa

An Air Canada Jazz flight bound for Toronto has made an emergency landing at Ottawa Macdonald-Cartier International Airport.

Officials at Ottawa Airport Authority confirmed to 1310News that the call came in around 6 a.m. for a report of smoke in the cabin.

Flight 8953, en route from Fredericton, was scheduled to land at 7:36 a.m. in Toronto.

“The crew requested priority landing into Ottawa and the flight landed safely,” Air Canada Jazz spokesperson Debra Williams told 1310News.

“Emergency vehicles met the aircraft upon arrival and confirmed there was no fire on board.”

However, the cause of the smoke is still under investigation.

Sixty-nine passengers and four crew members were on board, but no injuries were reported.

Williams said everyone got off the plane and have been re-booked on other flights to Toronto.

Macdonald-Cartier International Airport suspended operations for around 30 minutes while it dealt with the emergency situation.
