Alec Baldwin may be the latest celebrity to make hay from the ongoing saga surrounding Toronto Mayor Rob Ford.
According to Deadline.com, Baldwin is developing a new TV show “in which he would play the central character, a Rob Ford-type Mayor of New York City.”
The new TV show is reported to be an hour-long comedy for cable television. The pilot is expected to be written by Vancouver-born Wells Tower with Baldwin acting as executive producer alongside TV veteran Cary Brokaw.
Ford has become a household name across North America in the wake of numerous incidents, including admitting to smoking crack cocaine while sitting as mayor; using profane language on live television; outbursts in city council; various recordings of him consuming drugs and making racist remarks; and, more recently, going away for a two-month stint in rehab.
He’s been lampooned on Saturday Night Live, late-night talk shows and was even the butt of a joke at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner.
NBC Productions is also involved in the project, according to Deadline.com.
