Nobel laureates Mo Yan, Elfriede Jelinek are among finalists for Best Translated Book Award

ROCHESTER, N.Y. – Nobel laureates Mo Yan and Elfriede Jelinek are among the finalists for a prize honouring fiction translated into English.

University of Rochester-based Three Per cent announced the long list of 25 nominees Tuesday for the Best Translated Book Award. The winning author and translator each will receive $5,000 from Amazon.com.

Twenty countries and 16 languages are represented on the list.

Included on the list are Mo Yan’s “Sandalwood Death,” translated from Chinese by Howard Goldblatt, and Jelinek’s “Her Not All Her,” translated form German by Damion Searls.

Winners will be announced April 28.

Poetry finalists will be announced April 15, and poetry winners will be announced April 28.
