Police investigating after infant dies at Toronto daycare: report

Toronto police are investigating after a four-month-boy died at an unlicensed daycare.
The Toronto Star reports that the boy died at an apartment unit near Finch Avenue and Keele Street on Feb. 14.
The cause of death is not yet known.
He is the fourth child to die in an unlicensed daycare in the GTA in the past seven months.
Any death of a child under the age of five is automatically investigated by police.
In December 2013, the provincial government proposed changes to the daycare system in Ontario after two children died at unlicensed centres.
Under the Child Care Modernization Act, the number of spaces in licensed home daycares would increase by about 6,000 by allowing them to take in six children instead of the current number of five.
The legislation also calls for tougher penalties and restrictions. The province would be able to shut down a daycare if child safety is at risk and level penalties of up to $100,000.
The changes would also force private daycares with more than five children under the age of four to be licensed.
