#TTCsardines campaign launched by transit advocacy group

Transit advocacy group TTCriders has launched a social media campaign asking riders to share photos of their crowded and frustrating commutes.

The campaign, which launched Feb. 14 and ends March 5, is asking TTC users to share photos of their commute on buses, streetcars, the subway and the Scarborough RT, using the hashtag #TTCsardines.

The campaign goal is to send politicians a strong message that more transit funding is needed for the TTC, the group said. TTCriders is specifically calling on the province to include TTC funding in its upcoming budget.

“We’ve been collecting photos and we’re going to choose the best ones after March 5 and give it to the decision maker who’s failed us on transit,” TTCriders co-chair Jessica Bell told CityNews.ca.

The best photo will be part of the TTC Sardine Award, which the group will present to a politician who has “dropped the ball” on service and affordable fares.

Bell said the public response has “been pretty positive.” But she declined to provide any names of possible contenders for the award and ruled out TTC CEO Andy Byford as he’s considered an ally.

Commuters who are interested in sharing photos can do so on the group’s Tumblr or Facebook page, as well as on Twitter and via email. TTCriders asks that participants include with the photo the location, time, date and the hashtag, #TTCsardines.

Share your own photos and suggestions for the #TTC Sardine Award.
