John Tory to run for Toronto mayor

Former PC leader John Tory put the endless ‘will he or won’t he’ question to bed on Sunday evening, announcing he’s running for mayor of Toronto.
He released his first campaign video on Sunday.

This is Tory`s second run at the city’s top job. He lost to David Miller in 2003.
He says his platform consists of keeping taxes low and ending gridlock in the political chambers and on the roads.
“We need to have a city that’s livable, affordable and functional,” Tory says in the four-minute video.
He added that tackling congestion means putting the focus on transit.
“The Yonge Street subway relief line is job one for me and that means getting shovels in the ground,” he explained.
In what appears to be a shot at Mayor Rob Ford, Tory says politics of division have to end and people need to work together to find solutions.
“People have to come to work at city hall, councillors and everybody else, and work together not against each other,” he states “That includes province as well.”
Tory says he will formally enter the mayoral race Monday morning, the same day former TTC chair Karen Stintz will kick off her campaign.
Tory will speak with 680News political specialist John Stall Monday morning about his political aspirations before he heads to city hall to formally register.
