5 arrests made in Nuit Blanche murder

Toronto police have made five arrests and are still searching for two men after Rameez Khalid was fatally stabbed during Nuit Blanche.

Khalid, 19, was killed in the early morning of Oct. 6 after an altercation in the area of Richmond Street West and York Street in downtown Toronto.

One man, Victor Ramos, 21, surrendered to police on Monday morning. On Dec. 3, Emanuel Lozada, 22, was arrested and charged with second-degree murder.

Police announced three more arrests on Wednesday. However, those arrests occurred before Ramos and Lozada were taken into custody.

A 15-year-old boy was arrested on Oct. 30 and charged with manslaughter. His name cannot be released under the Youth Criminal Justice Act.

Stavros Panagiotopoulos, 22, was also arrested on Oct. 30 and charged with manslaughter.

Terelle Holder, 22, surrendered to police on Nov. 8 and was charged with manslaughter.

Police are still trying to identify two outstanding male suspects.

Police say Khalid attended a pop-up rave on University Avenue at Queen Street, part of Nuit Blanche, Toronto’s annual all-night alternative art event. At that rave, police say the victim was involved in an altercation with another group of people.

Det. Scott Whittemore said earlier in December the fight was broken up by members of the public. The victim and a friend left the area and went eastbound on Richmond where they crossed paths once again with the group from the fight.

Whittemore said a violent altercation then took place, during which Khalid suffered life-threatening injuries.

Khalid was the city’s 47th homicide of the year.
