Toronto Maple Leafs forward Phil Kessel has been suspended for three games, meaning he will be not be allowed to play for the remainder of the pre-season.
The suspension follows an on-ice fight which led to Kessel slashing division rivals Buffalo Sabres forward John Scott during Sunday’s pre-season game.
Kessel will be playing for next Tuesday’s (Oct 1) season opener.
The incident came after Buffalo’s Corey Tropp was injured in a fight with Toronto’s Jamie Devane. Scott attempted to go after Kessel on the next shift.
Kessel slashed Scott twice and give him a spear and was ejected from the game.
The incident resulted in Leafs forward David Clarkson being suspended for 10 regular-season games for leaving the bench and Buffalo coach Ron Rolston being fined for “player selection and team conduct.”
