Crash closes portion of WB Hwy. 407 in Mississauga

MISSISSAUGA, Ont. – The westbound Highway 407 was closed from Britannia Road to Highway 403 due to multi-vehicle crash for much of Tuesday.

Five people were taken to hospital, including one person who was transported by air ambulance to hospital with serious injuries.

According to the Ontario Provincial Police, two trucks and a tractor-trailer were involved in the crash.

Police said two trucks collided at around 7:45 in the westbound lanes of Highway 407 at Britannia. A tractor-trailer hit the debris, but that driver wasn’t injured.

The passenger in one of the two trucks involved in the crash was the most seriously hurt. The rest of the victims were taken to local hospitals but are in stable condition.

“The traffic support unit is at the scene; they’ll be doing their investigation. Two of the vehicles involved are both on their sides, so they’re going to have to be uprighted and onto the tow trucks. That’s going to take some time,” OPP Const. Linda McIntyre said.

There’s also a lot of debris on the road because one of the trucks, which was hauling ice, lost its load.

Police said they’re still trying to figure out what caused the crash, and added that it’s too early to say if any charges will be laid.
