Acton man accused of assaulting senior arrested

ACTON, Ont. – Halton Regional Police arrested a 51-year-old Acton man in connection with an “unprovoked attack” on a senior.

Police said the senior was walking his dog shortly before 3 p.m. on May 20.

The pair was crossing Mill Street East near Main Street North, when a vehicle sped up and forced the man to pick up his dog, police said.

Police allege the driver of the vehicle stopped and “verbally berated” the 78-year-old man who then fled to a nearby store.

“The driver followed him into the store and forcibly shoved the senior to the ground,” police alleged in a statement.

The assault left the victim with “bruising and abrasions to portions of his body, as well as, muscle damage to one of his limbs,” police said.

Police arrested Allen Snels Thursday. He is charged with assault and remains in custody for a bail hearing.
