‘Big Brother Canada’ evictee Danielle Alexander feels like she was cheated on

TORONTO – Being the second evictee on “Big Brother Canada” has left Calgary student Danielle Alexander feeling like a jilted lover.

“It’s almost like when you’re with somebody in a relationship and they cheat on you and you’re like, ‘What?'” the 20-year-old the bubbly blond said in an interview Friday morning.

“I just got cheated on by, like, 13 people!”

Alexander made a tearful exit from the Slice reality TV series Thursday night.

She’d volunteered to be a “pawn” and put herself up for eviction alongside the previously chosen Aneal Ramkissoon, thinking “Head of Household” Jillian MacLaughlin and others would save her.

But when it came to cast their ballots, Alexander became a victim of the show’s rampant scheming and secret alliances and was sent packing by a vote of eight to three.

“Deep down at the bottom of my heart I really thought I was staying. I put so much trust in these people and when they called my name I was so shocked,” said the Fort McMurray, Alta., native, decked out in a figure-hugging floral dress and high heels.

“Everything was a blur. I was just so angry and I felt so betrayed that all I wanted to do was get out of the house. I didn’t want to say goodbye. I just wanted to get out of there.”

The aspiring actress, who wants to move to Los Angeles, said she was mostly upset over losing out on an opportunity to gain long-term exposure on national television.

“It’s my dream to be on TV and do this, so it was so hard for me to leave because I love the cameras.”

Alexander said she’s also going to miss fellow contestant Gary Levy, a 21-year-old Toronto fashion stylist with whom she had some hilarious bonding moments, including the time they secretly guzzled vodka meant for all the houseguests.

Levy’s big personality and penchant for messy body glitter has ruffled some feathers in the house and Alexander is worried about his fate on the show.

“Just knowing that he was going to be in there by himself and that he was going to have to fight a lot of things alone now that I’m not in there was really hard,” said Alexander.

In “Big Brother Canada,” contestants live together in a camera-filled house with no exposure to the outside world and compete in mental/physical challenges for a chance at winning a grand prize of $100,000. The winner also gets a $25,000 gift card for The Brick and a Chevrolet Trax.

The hopefuls moved in less than two weeks ago (the first evictee was Toronto bartender Kat Yee) but it’s felt like much longer, said Alexander.

“I think it’s because of so much mental drain,” she said. “You’re always thinking, ‘Who can I trust, what can I do, what do we do here, should I have said that, should I say this, who should I talk to, what are they doing over there?'”

Alexander’s problem was that she wasn’t playing the game well enough, said host Arisa Cox.

“She was played, and she volunteered to be a pawn. I’m like, ‘Rookie move!'”

Cox added Alexander is “so sweet and so naive … she dodged a bullet by getting out early because that place is going to get ugly now.”

Alexander said she now realizes it was a mistake to volunteer as a “pawn” but she also thinks her strong personality and young age played against her.

“I mean, I am mature for my age anyways,” she said. “But a lot of the time I think when people are older, especially in this situation, they feel more in control, like they can take advantage because they have more experience in life.”

And who does Alexander think will win?

“I feel like the boys will stay the longest and Jillian will be the longest girl, for sure,” she said.

“I feel like Peter will probably win the … competition because he does know it so well … and he’s been really flying under the radar.”
