SIU investigating after four injured in shootings near Toronto nightclub

TORONTO, Ont. – The Special Investigations Unit is investigating after some early morning violence near a popular Toronto nightclub.

The SIU closed the eastbound Gardiner between Park Lawn Road and Spadina Avenue for a brief period Sunday night.

A pair of shootings happened just before 3 a.m. Sunday at a parking lot near Muzik Nightclub, which is located on the CNE grounds.

Details are limited, but CityNews is reporting four men have been hurt, with at least one of them suffering from life-threatening injuries.

The Special Investigations Unit is Ontario’s police watchdog, and is called anytime a person is hurt or killed in an incident involving police.

What exactly happened with police is still unknown, as once the SIU mandate is applied little information is released.

In a release the SIU says police observed an altercation outside Muzik Nightclub, with officers hearing gunshots and then seeing a car flee the scene.

Reports now indicate two people were shot in that initial shooting, which did not involve police.

When the car involved in the shooting failed to stop officers fired at the car, which stopped a short distance away. Two of the three people in the car were hit by bullets and rushed to St. Michael’s Hospital.

There are two crime scenes taped off, one in a parking lot on the CNE grounds near Muzik and another near Dufferin and King streets.

At the scene on Dufferin there is a vehicle in a snowbank with several bullet holes in it.

Anyone with information is being asked to contact the SIU, police or Crime Stoppers.
