Ford still wants to be mayor if he loses appeal

TORONTO, Ont. – Mayor Rob Ford’s appeal of a ruling to have him removed from office will go before the court on Monday.

The ruling was due to Ford violating the municipal Conflict of Interest Act.

Ford was at the unveiling of a $2.3-million ski lift at Earl Bales Ski and Snowboard Centre on Friday. He was there to cut the ribbon on a new ski lift, but Ford couldn’t avoid questions about his appeal.

“I should have bet that was going to be the first question, you know that,” Ford said.

Ford said if his appeal of the ruling removing him from office fails, voters haven’t heard the last of him.

“Regardless of what happens, I guarantee I’ll be running in the next municipal election. Be it a byelection or be it the 2014 election. I guarantee my name will be on that ballot for mayor.”

Coun. James Pasternak doesn’t see a byelection happening.

“Torontonians are in no mood for an $8-million byelection two years before the next general election,” Pasternak said.

Ford also hinted his preference would be for council to reappoint him to the mayor’s office if his appeal fails.

“If that’s what council decides, obviously that would save a lot of money,” Ford said.
