Daily Bread Food Bank reminds you to think of the less fortunate this Christmas

TORONTO, Ont. – While you’re passing gifts around the Christmas tree Tuesday morning, you may also want to remember those who are less fortunate.

Despite the fact that it ends in less than a week, the Daily Bread Food Bank hasn’t met their Holiday Campaign goal just yet.

There is still time to donate, and cash or food donations could help put them over the top, according to executive director Gail Nyberg.

“Right now, I’m happy to say we’re at the $1.5-million, our problem is we’re only at 500,000 pounds of food,” Nyberg said.

The food bank was hoping for a million pounds of food, and they say food donations will help to stock the shelves for February and March.

“It is the critical time of year for all food banks. Christmas is pretty much taken care of for clients now because it has been the food collecting for the last couple of weeks.”

“It’s so important to fill the shelves now because the fact that the shelves aren’t full, then it gets pretty lean in February and March,” Nyberg said.

Food donations can be made at any fire hall, Loblaws, Real Canadian Superstore, No Frills or Valu-Mart locations.

Monetary donations can be made here.
