Fast-acting civilians save man pinned under snowplow in Newmarket

A man, believed to be in his 40s, is in hospital after being struck by the back-end of a snowplow in Newmarket.

The incident happened in the parking lot of a tire shop near Bayview Avenue and Mulock Drive.

“I first thought the guy had a flat tire because we saw something rolling around underneath, then we realized it was the dude and he started yelling there is a guy underneath,” said one witness.

The man was pinned under the vehicle for a time but nearby shop employees came to his aid, using jacks to lift the plow off of him.

“I grabbed some jacks real fast and the boys ran out as fast as we could,” said one employee.

“We jacked up the vehicle, and I told them don’t touch the fella, just take the weight off him and don’t touch him, the professionals are on their way here.”

He was rushed to hospital where he is now listed in stable condition with non-life-threatening injuries.

York Regional Police told 680News the plow was on the end of a private pick-up truck.

Police are still investigating the circumstances surround the incident.
