Two men dead after wrong-way crash on Highway 404

AURORA, Ont. – Two people have been killed after a serious crash on Highway 404 around 6 a.m. Saturday morning.

OPP Sergeant Dave Woodford confirms to CityNews that a vehicle was travelling southbound in the northbound lanes when it struck another vehicle just north of Aurora Road at St. John’s Sideroad.

“There was a single occupant, both of them drivers, in each vehicle, and both males have been pronounced deceased here at the scene,” Woodford said.

The wrong-way driver has been identified as a 25-year-old man from Markham, while the man who was struck has been identified as a 57-year-old from Unionville.

Highway 404 was closed between Aurora Road and Mulock Drive for several hours as the OPP investigated the deadly crash.

“We don’t know at this time where he (the wrong way driver) actually got onto the highway, we’re looking for witnesses,” Woodford said.

The collision reconstruction team is on the scene.

Police have not yet identified the victims in the crash.
