A man has died while a woman has been seriously hurt after a head-on crash near Oshawa.

The fatal crash happened in the early hours of the morning Saturday in Courtice, located just east of Oshawa.

Police say a vehicle driven by a 20-year-old woman crossed the centre line for unknown reasons and struck an oncoming car.

A 23-year-old man in the other car had to be extricated from the wreckage and later died in hospital.

Police have identified the man as Timothy Smith of Bowmanville.

The woman’s name has not been released and she remains in hospital in serious condition. Police say charges are pending.
