Woman accused of botched cosmetic procedure granted bail

TORONTO, Ont. – A 46-year-old woman has been charged after Toronto police said buttock augmentation injections she allegedly administered sent one of her clients to hospital.
Marilyn Ely Reid of Newmarket has been charged with criminal negligence causing bodily harm.
She appeared in court Friday where she was freed on a $5,000 surety bond, according to a CityNews report.
On Aug. 26, the victim, a 28-year-old woman, received several injections of polymethylmethacrylate or PMMA, police said.
The woman fell ill and was taken to hospital Aug. 29, where she was treated for several days with antibiotics. Her condition continued to deteriorate and she had to undergo surgery to have the injected substance removed from her buttocks.
The woman paid thousands of dollars in cash for the service, police said.
Police said the woman advertises buttock, lip and muscle augmentations and Botox injections on pmmainjection.com.
The accused would respond to interested clients via email and arrange a meeting location with the client either at the client’s home or a hotel, police said.
Police said the services were provided for cash, with the costs in thousands of dollars.
Police believe there may be other victims.
