TORONTO, Ont. – Parents hoping their kids would be attending the newly upgraded Nelson Mandela Park Public School in September are going to have to change their plans.
The school, located near Shuter and Parliament streets, is undergoing a $22 million upgrade to keep the historic facade of the building, which dates back to 1917.
The upgrade, which officials hoped would be complete by September, will also convert part of the school into a community hub including a daycare and community centre.
Due to the delays, 350 students will be bussed to nearby Regent Park-Duke of York public school.
A spokesman for the Toronto District School Board told the Toronto Star they hope to be finished the upgrade by January.
