Yoga may help mothers-to-be who suffer from depression

Research from the University of Michigan has found that mothers-to-be who are at high risk of mental health problems find significant relief from depression after taking part in a 10-week yoga program.

It was also found that the mothers had a stronger attachment to their babies in the womb.

This is the first study of its kind to provide evidence that mindfulness yoga, which combines meditative focus with physical poses, to be an effective treatment for depressed mothers-to-be.

The findings were published in Complementary Therapies in Clinical Practice.
