Toronto to host Festival of Football

TORONTO, Ont. – Toronto is going to host, what is being billed, as Canada’s largest grassroots soccer fundraiser.

The Festival of Football will be held August 18 at Eglinton Flats in support of West Park Healthcare Centre in the Jane Street and Weston Road area.

The festival invites adults to form teams to play in six-on-six soccer games.

Sportsnet soccer analyst and former premier league player Craig Forest told 680News he is happy to support the event, given the amazing care he has seen patients receive at West Park.

“When you see the passion and when people work in a healthcare centre like West Park, it really is humbling to someone like myself who is just a football player,” said Forest.

Mayor Rob Ford hopes Toronto city councillors can put together at least twenty teams.

Ford told 680News he has had a little experience on the pitch.

“At Martingrove Soccer, when I was younger, and then I got into football. So I can play soccer,” said Ford.

There has been mo word on if he plans to play.

The Festival of Football will raise cash to support west park’s $100-million expansion project.
