Canadians more likely to spend this holiday season than Americans

It appears Canadians are going to be more like Santa on this side of the border this year.

Research company NPD Group says the resiliency of the Canadian economy is showing up in the holiday shopping data.

Three in four Canadians say that they are going to spend the same or more than they did last Christmas.

Just over one in three (34 per cent) reported that the state of the economy will have little or no impact on their holiday shopping.

In comparison, only about one in five Americans (19 per cent) felt the same level of comfort.

Over one-third of Canadian shoppers (36 per cent) intend to put the majority of their holiday spending on credit cards compared to 28 per cent of American shoppers.
