Lanterra to replace glass after panels fall from condos

TORONTO, Ont. – Lanterra Developments says it will replace all of the glass in three of its buildings. This comes after glass fell from its buildings three times since Saturday.

In a statement released Wednesday, the company says it will fully remove the tempered glass on the balconies its’ highrise condos on the corner of Bedford Road and Bloor Street West, at Bay Street and Grenville Street and the Grosvenor Street apartment complex.

The new panes will be made from a laminated glass which is similar to those used in windshields on vehicles.

Lanterra says the panels are safe because they will not shatter and will stay in place on the balcony if they break.

The company says public safety and the safety of residents in their developments are their first priority.

On Monday, a woman in her 30s was hurt after she was hit by glass that fell from the high rise at Bay and Grenville.
