Highway 401 westbound reopens after fatal crash in Oshawa

OSHAWA, On. – The westbound lanes of the 401 have reopened after a fatal crash at Stevenson Road in Oshawa.

One man was pronounced dead at the scene of a three-vehicle collision that happened shortly after 8:50 a.m., Wednesday.

Ontario Provincial Police Sergeant Dave Woodford said the crash involved a motorcycle, a red Toyota and a tractor-trailer.

A motorcyclist was following the Toyota in the westbound passing lane when the car suddenly slowed for traffic, Woodford told 680News.

“The motorcycle ran into the right rear corner then as a result, veered over to the centre lane and was struck by a tractor trailer,” Woodford explained. “The driver was pinned underneath and was carried down the highway about 80 to 100 metres before the truck actually stopped.”

Police said the man who died was a 42-year-old from Courtice.

The westbound lanes of the 401 through a big chunk of Oshawa were closed for 3.5 for the investigation.
