Tories, Liberals fine-tune campaign platforms ahead of imminent election call

OTTAWA – The political parties in Ottawa have been fine-tuning their election campaign platforms in the House of Commons, hours ahead of an imminent election call.

During Question Period today, Liberal Deputy Leader Ralph Goodale accused the Conservatives of choosing fighter jets over educating students.

Goodale then went on to criticize the Tories for going on a spending binge for last summer’s G-20 summit instead of using the money to help low-income seniors.

Government House Leader John Baird made no apologies for spending (b) billions of dollars on fighter jets.

He replied that it’s important to outfit Canada’s military with the best possible equipment.

Baird also accused the Liberals of being reckless with taxpayer dollars by forcing an unnecessary election.

And he warned that the real plan of the Liberals is to use the results of the election — presumably another minority — to justify forming a coalition government with the New Democrats and Bloc Quebecois.

The Harper government is poised to be defeated tomorrow on a Liberal motion of non-confidence.
