Mission family ready to collect blankets at transit hubs

MISSION (NEWS1130) – It started when Gregory Ould was walking in Vancouver a few years ago and homeless man told him if he could ‘use a blanket to survive the night.’ That conversation led to the Blanket BC Society, which has now collected over 35,000 blankets for the less fortunate.

Ould runs the society with his seven-year-old son Benjamin’s input. Benjamin tells News1130 the best part of the job is pretty straightforward. “Giving blankets to other people.”

And that job is going to be a big one this year with the Lower Mainland bracing for its worst winter in over 50 years.

Gregory Ould says that’s why they’re doing a major blanket drive on Friday, November 26, when they’ll be collecting donations at SkyTrain stations. “You can donate a blanket on your way to work or class or yoga, knowing that you’re doing good for a great cause,” explains Ould.

The day-long drive will happen at all Expo, Millennium and Canada Line stations. They’re also looking for volunteers.
