Belly dance conference draws 1,400 dancers from around the world to Toronto

TORONTO, Ont. – There’s a whole lotta shakin’ goin’ on in Toronto.

The city is playing host to 1,400 belly dancers at the International Belly Dance Conference of Canada.

Director Yasmina Ramzy says it’s the third year for the conference, which has brought in belly dancing stars from all over, including Egypt and north Africa.

Ramzy says the conference was created in order to address the concerns of Middle Eastern dancers in Canada and around the world.

She says it serves to foster a broad range of education, networking opportunities and artistic inspiration as well as making the general public more aware of the art form.

The conference continues through Sunday.
