Jury deliberations continue in Jordan Manners trial

TORONTO, Ont. – Jury deliberations continue for a second day in the Jordan Manners murder trial.

Two 20-year-old men are charged with first-degree murder.

The accused cannot be named under the Youth Criminal Justice Act because they were minors when they were charged in the Manners slaying.

Manners, a 15-year-old at the time, was shot in the hallway of CW Jefferys Collegiate on May 23, 2007.

The case went to the jury Tuesday afternoon.

Meanwhile, the judge in the trial said the Ontario attorney general should investigate the testimony of two witnesses.

The females testified during the trial that statements they made to police were not what they saw but classroom gossip.

“Two young females admitted that they lied. It’s equally possible that they lied during the trial,” Justice Ian Nordheimer said.

He added that “it undermined the process” and that the attorney general should review that matter and “it should not simply be ignored.”

The Crown said the two witnesses changed their stories out of fear.
