Court appearance for ex-CFB Trenton commander, charged in deaths of two women The Canadian Press

The case against a Canadian military commander charged with two counts of first-degree murder has been adjourned for five weeks.

Col. Russell Williams, who is being held in the Quinte Detention Centre in nearby Napanee, appeared in court in Belleville via video today looking haggard.

He will reappear in court via video on March 25.

Williams, 46, is charged with two counts of first-degree murder in the deaths of Cpl. Marie-France Comeau of Brighton and Jessica Lloyd of Belleville.

The former CFB Trenton base commander is also charged with two counts each of forcible confinement, break and enter and sexual assault relating to the attacks on women during home invasions in Tweed last September.

Williams has hired high-profile Ottawa lawyer Michael Edelson to handle his case, although Edelson sent an agent to court for today’s hearing.
