Toronto Zoo announces names of adorable white lion cubs

By News Staff

The Toronto Zoo’s white lion cubs finally have been given names, the zoo announced on Facebook Thursday afternoon.

In a video posted to the social media site, the zoo revealed that the adorable five-month-old cubs have been named Gus, Hank, Oliver and Harrison.

According to the post, the names were chosen by the African Savanna staff, who have been working closely with the cubs since they were born.

In other cases – like with the giant panda cubs – the zoo will encourage the public to join in on the naming by holding a contest. On Wednesday, the zoo revealed that the names Duo Duo and Jia Jia (which translate to Toronto and Canada) are currently leading in the poll to name the panda cubs. Voting ends on Feb. 28.

The lion cubs were born in September 2015 and already weigh about 30 pounds each.

The public can visit the lion cubs at the Toronto Zoo Saturdays and Sundays from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., weather permitting.

Yesterday the zoo also circulated a short video of Da Mao rolling out of his den and enjoying the fresh snowfall.
