Newsroom Coordinator

About Anne

When I was young, I’d huddle under the sheets with a Heathkit transistor radio my brothers built, the volume turned down low so no one knew I was still awake. I would angle it left and right, hoping to catch a signal in the darkness from someplace far, far away…like Buffalo. I can’t count the number of times I’d fall asleep while listening to dramas such as The Shadow, Dr. Kildare or The Green Hornet late Sunday nights. I loved radio, it was magical. Yet, radio in ‘my room’ was very different from what my parents tuned into. Every radio they owned was ‘glued’ to the same station and the news was always on. Among all the booming male announcers of the time, there was one woman. I listened to her everyday when I came home for lunch from school, The Betty Kennedy Show. I remember eating my grilled cheese and thinking…I’d like to do what she does – talk with people on the radio. Born and raised in Toronto, Anne graduated from the University of Toronto in 1986. While attaining her Bachelors of Arts, she was hired as a club and concert reporter at 99.9 CKFM. In 1988, Anne accepted a position as a traffic reporter at 97.3 CJEZ allowing her to co-host and produce news segments. In 1991 she was hired as the overnight newscaster at 680 CFTR. Then in June of 1993, All Hits CFTR switched format to All News. Anne was home again. She became a news editor and is now the 680News newsroom coordinator. Along the way, Anne emceed numerous ‘Women of Influence’ luncheons at the Metro Convention Center and has anchored on CFMT TV. She lectures at universities and colleges, voices commercials and radio promos and she currently produces and voices the Today’s Parent Minute, heard across Canada, tackling child and family issues. Anne is also a professor in the journalism program for the School of Communications, Media and Design at the Centre for Creative Communications at Centennial College.
