Ontario is reporting 296 new COVID-19 cases and 6 deaths on Thursday.

It is the fourth consecutive day the province has reported fewer than 300 new infections.

The province is reporting a test positivity rate of 1.1 per cent, down  from 1.3 per cent one week ago. It is the lowest positivity rate reported since Sept. 25.

There were 29,514 tests completed in the last 24-hour period.

Locally, there are 95 new cases in the Region of Waterloo, 35 in Toronto, 20 in Peel Region, 19 in Hamilton and 17 in Ottawa.

There were another 384 resolved cases, dropping the active case count to below 3,000 for the first time since September. Resolved cases have outnumbered new infections each day since mid-April.

The province reported 255 cases and 11 deaths on Wednesday.

The rolling seven-day average drops to 305, reaching the lowest point since Sept. 18.

There were 225,188 vaccine doses administered in the last 24-hour period. The number is just shy of the single-day record of more than 227,000 doses administered a day ago.

As of 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, 13,321,816 doses of the COVID-19 vaccine have been administered, 75.6 per cent of Ontario residents 12 and older have received at least one dose while 27.4 per cent are now fully vaccinated.

Ontario will enter Step 2 of the province’s three-step COVID-19 reopening plan on June 30.

The move means barbers and salons will be able to open next Wednesday, two days earlier than expected. Capacity limits for retail stores and patios will also expand.

Outdoor gathering capacity will increase to 25 people while indoor gatherings will be allowed with up to five people.
