Toronto police have arrested and charged a second suspect in connection with a shooting in Rexdale that injured four people, including three children, at a toddler’s birthday party last weekend.

Interim Police Chief James Ramer announced on Tuesday that 21-year-old Kevin George is in custody and faces multiple charges including four counts of aggravated assault and seven firearm-related offences.

On Monday, police identified, arrested, and charged a first suspect, a 24-year-old man –  who was also taken to hospital – in connection to the shooting.

Demar Cadogan of Toronto faces multiple charges including discharge of a firearm with intent and possession of a restricted or prohibited firearm without a licence.

Investigators believe both these men were initial shooters.

Police were called to a building complex on Tandridge Crescent near Byng Avenue just after 8:00 p.m. Saturday following reports of gunshots.

When they arrived they discovered four victims including three children – a one-year-old, a five-year-old and an 11-year-old – all suffering from gunshot wounds.

In an update on Monday, police said the five-year-old girl, who was hit in the head, remains in hospital in critical condition.

Both the one-year-old and 11-year-old were treated for injuries and released from hospital.

Police say this is an active investigation and are urging anyone with information to come forward.

“Officers are still looking for the other people responsible, either as shooters or as accessories after the fact,” they said in a news release.

“If you were involved in this incident, please seek legal counsel and turn yourselves into police.”
