Woman seriously hurt in violent sexual assault on date from online app

York Regional Police have arrested and charged a 19-year-old man after he violently sexually assault a woman he met on an online dating app.
On June 14, officers responded to a report of a sexual assault and located a female victim who was taken to hospital with what police call significant injuries.
The victim said she met the suspect on an online dating app and met with the suspect at his address on Kennedy Road in Markham.
The woman was assaulted multiple times with a weapon and was sexually assaulted.
Police say the suspect demanded money from the victim but she was able to escape and called 9-1-1.
A day later, at around 1:30 a.m., officers arrested the suspect and searched his residence.
Masseiah Issac Ireland, 19, of Markham – who went by Jalen and listed his age as 28 online – faces multiple charges including sexual assault with a weapon and aggravated assault.
The accused was set to appear in court today.
