Listen to 680 Business Editor Kris McCusker’s report on the This Is Our Shot campaign:

Focused on avoiding a fourth wave of COVID-19 and more lockdowns, a nationwide effort is being made to ensure Canadians have the right facts and information about vaccines to replace hesitancy with confidence.

This Is Our Shot and its more than 200 partners are calling on everyone to get vaccinated and to inspire others do the same.

To participate in the “This Is Our Shot to be #TogetherAgain” challenge:

  • Get your COVID-19 vaccine doses when it’s your turn
  • Dedicate your vaccine to someone (or something) you care about
  • Share your dedication on social media using #ThisIsOurShotCA and #TogetherAgain
  • Tag friends and family to do the same

Organizers are also offering a This Is Our Shot to be #TogetherAgain t-shirt. All proceeds will benefit Kids Help Phone. More than $100,000 has been raised since the campaign’s launch in April.

The initiative is backed by grassroots organizations, businesses, associations, community leaders, influencers and healthcare professionals.

To symbolize the joint effort, a new logo featuring a bandage is being included on t-shirts and other creative elements.

“To date, the This Is Our Shot movement has made a major impact in encouraging Canadians to get informed and feel confident about vaccination in a way that’s inclusive and community-based,” Anju Anand, MD FRCPC, Respirology said.

The push to vaccinate comes as Ontario reported the smallest increase in new COVID-19 cases since September 25th.

There were 411 new infections and 33 additional deaths Wednesday. However, the province said 11 of the deaths occurred in April or May.

There were another 177,506 vaccine doses administered in the last 24-hour period. It is just the third time the province has administered more than 170,000 doses in a single day.

As of 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, 10,445,119 doses of the COVID-19 vaccine have been administered and 70.9 per cent of Ontarians over the age of 12 have received at least one dose, while 9.9 per cent of residents are now fully vaccinated.

More Ontarians are eligible to book their second dose of a COVID-19 vaccine through the provincial system this week.
