Ontario is reporting 663 new cases of COVID-19 on Sunday, the fewest number of new infections since last October.

It’s only the second time in the last week that fewer than 700 new infections have been reported as the rolling seven-day average of new cases falls below 800 for the first time since October 23.

Toronto recorded 115 new cases – the fewest number of new infections since February. Peel Region is reporting 112 new cases while just 47 new infections were added in York Region.

An additional 10 deaths were reported by provincial health officials, raising the total number of deaths due to the virus to 8,854.

A total of just 22,635 tests were completed in the last 24 hour period, as the positivity rate fell back to 2.8 per cent.

Hospitalizations due to COVID-19 fell to 545, however, the total number is underreported on weekends as many hospitals fail to submit their data. There are 510 patients in the ICU. Two weeks ago, that number was just under 700.

The province administered 158,393 first doses of the COVID-19 vaccine on Saturday. That brings the total number of doses given to just under 10 million. Just over one million Ontarians have now been fully vaccinated against the virus.

Ontario will open up bookings for a second dose of the COVID-19 vaccine to individuals 70 years and older on Monday, as well as individuals who received their first dose of the Pfizer or Moderna vaccine on or before April 18, 2021. Individuals can book their second dose appointment using the provincial booking system or by calling the Provincial Vaccine Booking Line at 1-833-943-3900.
