Mississauga mayor calling on province for more details in Ontario’s re-opening plan

Mississauga Mayor Bonnie Crombie wants more clarity from the province on its re-opening plan.

During Peel Region’s COVID-19 update, Crombie thanked residents for getting vaccinated and doing their part to stop the spread, but says its going to take some time to see a full reopening of the economy.

Crombie says regions in the province also need more details about what’s coming after June 2nd — when the current stay-at-home lockdown orders expire.

“The health minister said that the province will not be moving back to the colour-coded framework that was previously in place, if that’s the case, we need clarity as soon as possible on what the re-opening framework will look like,” Crombie says.

“This is critical information, we all understand and accept that it’s going to take some more time before we see a full re-opening of our economy, but we need real tangible benchmarks to work towards this, and a clearly defined and articulated plan,” she said.

Crombie says outdoor recreation should be the first to open, “we know that the vast majority of our doctors and experts are in agreement that outdoor recreation is safe right now if the proper precautions are taken.”

The region is taking further steps in its vaccine rollout, seeing kids 12 years and up who live, work, or go to school in Peel Region eligible to book an appointment for a Pfizer vaccine starting Thursday.
