The Conservative Party of Canada is facing criticism for a tweet sent out on Wednesday night that was quickly deleted.

The tweet said “a one dose summer is not good enough for Canadians,” and it showed a picture of people partying with the caption “Two Dose Summer.” The tweet also had a picture of a man in a hospital bed hooked up to oxygen mask and an IV with the caption “Trudeau Summer.”

Liberal MPs and some political commentators took to twitter to call the tweet “shameful” and “repugnant.”

The director of communications for the party tells 680 NEWS the tweet was sent to focus on the serious issues of vaccines and closing the border. They say it was removed because the party didn’t feel the tweet showed the seriousness effectively.

Speaking in Ottawa on Tuesday, Trudeau said Canada can have a “one dose summer” that will, in turn, set us up for “a two-dose fall.”

Once that happens, the Prime Minister admitted it is then “we’ll be able to talk about going back to school, back to work, and back to more normality.”
