Ellen DeGeneres reportedly ending talk show, ‘it’s just not a challenge anymore’

By News Staff

Ellen DeGeneres has announced she will be ending her long-time daytime talk show.

The TV host tells the Hollywood Reporter that the upcoming season of The Ellen DeGeneres Show will be the last.

“When you’re a creative person, you constantly need to be challenged – and as great as this show is, and as fun as it is, it’s just not a challenge anymore,” said DeGeneres.

DeGeneres says she informed her staff of the decision on May 11. She will discuss the news with her friend and fellow daytime TV icon Oprah Winfrey on Thursday’s episode of the show.

Longtime cohost/DJ for the show, Stephen “tWitch” Boss, told 680 NEWS that “all good things must come to an end.”

He acknowledges that fans of the show may be disappointed, but the announcement means the upcoming season will be a celebration.

“We get to look back on all the years that the show has put in, all the lives it has changed.”

It’s been a year of controversy for the host, who has been accused of creating a toxic workplace.

In the summer, WarnerMedia opened an investigation following multiple accusations of workplace and sexual misconduct. It eventually led to the popular daytime show removing three of its top producers, including Ed Glavin, Kevin Leman, and Jonathan Norman.

An internal company investigation of work conditions was prompted by a BuzzFeed News report in July based on 36 interviews with ex-staffers, who complained about or said they witnessed improper and unfair treatment.

This upcoming season will be the 19th season of The Ellen DeGeneres Show. It will begin in the fall.
