Peel region adds 5 businesses to COVID-19 closure list

By News staff

Peel Region has added another five businesses to their list of closures due to COVID-19 outbreaks, including the full closure of one business.

Another Amazon facility is facing a partial closure, bringing the total number of Amazon fulfillment centres to three.

Two TJX Canada Distribution centres, one in Brampton and another in Mississauga, and Massiv Automated Systems in Brampton are also facing partial closures.

Aluma Systems, an infrastructure services company in Bolton, has been fully shut down due to a COVID-19 outbreak.

Peel’s Section 22 order allows them to close a workplace when five or more people at a workplace test positive for COVID-19 within a period of 14 days.

A partial closure means the dismissal of a shift or work area, while a full closure applies to the entire workplace.

The region has issued closure orders to 16 businesses since it came into effect on April 24.

Both Toronto and Peel public health units introduced the orders last week, saying the primary objective is to separate employees from one another in workplaces where transmission of COVID-19 is identified.

Toronto has also issued closure orders to 16 businesses including four full closures as of April 29.
