Plane crash on Lake Simcoe reportedly leaves one person dead

Emergency crews have been called to a plane crash on the east side of Lake Simcoe.

The OPP says the small plane crashed on the ice of Lake Simcoe around 4 o’clock p.m. Monday, about one kilometer off the lagoon city, that’s just south east of Orillia

Local media reports at least one person was killed in the crash.

OPP Cst. Ted Dongelmans tells 680 NEWS, “it has been reported by witnesses that it was a fairly serious impact with the ice.”

The OPP has not confirmed if there was a fatality, and are interviewing witnesses in nearby fishing huts.

As of Monday evening, police are asking everyone to avoid the end of County Road 47, where crews are working.

Police are asking anyone who has information about an overdue aircraft to contact them.
