People lined up to get vaccinated without appointments at Toronto pharmacy, they are now out of doses

680 NEWS has leaned that a Shoppers Drug Mart on Danforth near Coxwell began accepting walk-in vaccinations Wednesday at 4pm, no appointment necessary.

People lined up down the street today waiting for their shot.

Those in line said they saw the walk-in option on the news or received a text from a friend, and showed up to receive a vaccine.

The pharmacy location is now out of vaccines. No confirmation on when they will receive more.

On Friday, the Shoppers on Danforth/Pape and Danforth/Main will have 500 doses each. This store will still be empty.

Oxford-AstraZeneca shots are being given to Ontarians between the ages of 60 to 64 at 325 pharmacies in the Toronto, Windsor, and Kingston health units following Wednesday’s announcement by the Ford government.

The various locations include pharmacies at Shoppers Drug Mart, Costco, Wal-Mart, and Loblaws, among others.

Frontenac, Lennox, & Addington will also vaccinate members 60 to 64.

One man told 680 NEWS before today, he was under the assumption he would not be vaccinated until the summer, at the earliest.

“I thought it would be May or June because I am in the 60 to 65 range,” he said. “Just get vaccinated. Keep yourself [and others] out of hospital.”

The Ontario Pharmacists Association (OPA) says the program – which is set to launch broadly tomorrow – has a “rolling start” today, with some sites already administering vaccines.

Some Ontarians on the cusp of the age limit for the program reported confusion and appointments being cancelled after bookings opened yesterday.

In an attempt to clear up any confusion vaccine-eager residents may have with regards to who can and cannot get the AstraZeneca shot, a spokesperson for the Ministry of Health says, “you are eligible if you are 60-64 as of the day of vaccination OR, if you will be, or have been, 60-64 in 2021.”

Over 194,000 doses of the AstraZeneca vaccine have arrived in Ontario.

Pharmacists Association CEO Justin Bates says that is being communicated to the participating pharmacies today to ensure people can get their appointments.
