SIU investigating after Whitby crash involving stolen police car

The SIU is investigating after a fiery crash in Whitby involving a stolen police cruiser resulted in serious injuries to three people.
The incident happened at Dundas and Garden Streets in Whitby just before 8 p.m. Sunday night, Durham Police tell 680 NEWS the stolen marked police cruiser crashed into another vehicle, and then burst into flames.
Police were responding to a storage facility on Victoria Street in Whitby for reports of a suspicious person. While officers were investigating someone took off in a cruiser and crashed into another vehicle a short time later.
The 30-year-old male driver of the stolen police vehicle was taken to hospital with serious injuries. A 69-year-old woman and 12-year-old boy from the other vehicle were also taken to hospital with serious injuries.
One person has been taken into custody.
Two people were taken to hospital with serious, but not-life-threatening injuries.
Roads in the area have since reopened.
