Police in Hamilton have arrested and charged two people, after a baby’s body was found at a residence.

Investigators say they were called to 104 Wellington Street North just after midnight after receiving a report from a member of the community of “suspicious circumstances” at the home. A baby was found buried in the home’s basement.

34 year old Nathan O’Brien and 24 year old Winnie Ensor, both of Hamilton, have been charged with criminal negligence causing death, and interfering with a dead body.

A post-mortem will be conducted to determine the baby’s cause of death in the coming days.

Police say they expect to be at the location for several days but there is no further threat to public safety. Anyone with information is asked to contact police.
