Ford government calling on influencers to urge Ontarians to stay home

By News Staff

The Ford government is calling on social media influencers to encourage Ontarians to do their part to help slow the spread of COVID-19.

The campaign will see leading athletes, artists, musicians, and other online influencers encourage everyone to stay home and save lives so that we can once again experience and explore all that the province has to offer.

The campaign kicks off with a “rant” from comedian and television personality Rick Mercer, who begins by reminiscing on the “good old days when we didn’t watch Doug Ford every single day at 1 o’clock.”

“I know a lot of people said the whole stay home thing is very confusing. It’s actually not. It just means, stay home.”

Mercer goes on to single out people between the ages of 18 and 29, or those who are “in the lead of getting COVID and passing it on to others.”

“I know, if you’re a young person and you hear that you have to stay in you’re thinking one thing – is the government telling me I can’t hook up? Well the answer to that is yes.”

“In safer times my job is to encourage people to travel our province, attend music festivals and to cheer on our sports teams,” said Lisa MacLeod, Minister of Heritage, Sport, Tourism and Culture Industries. “But now is not the time. Right now, we all have the responsibility to Stay Home, Stay Safe, and Save Lives.”
