‘It’s progress’: Torontonians react to Trump’s term, new Biden presidency

With Joe Biden officially sworn in as the 46th President of the United States, it’s been all but unanimous approval from most Toronto residents.
“Thank the lord,” one group of women said. “We’re happy. Very, very happy.”
But there is a bit of mixed reaction with folks as to whether they feel Biden as President will make a difference with day to day life on this side of the border.

“I am kind of excited not to hear from him [Trump] on the news every single day,” another resident said.
“I think that will be a bit of rest for all of us.”
Some say no, different country. Others say yes, this is clearly progress.
“Not a big Trump fan but hopefully this means good news for the country.”
“It’s progress,” one man said. “I think it’s going to be good moving forward.”
Outside the U.S. consulate, it’s been peaceful all day. There have been no Trump supporters or demonstrators anywhere to be seen.
Toronto Police, however, have been around just in case they need to keep the order.
Canada’s Prime Minister Justin Trudeau issued a statement shortly after Biden was sworn in, saying he’s looking forward to working with the 46th President.
Biden’s inauguration came at a time of national tumult and uncertainty, a ceremony of resilience as the hallowed American democratic rite unfurled at a U.S. Capitol battered by an insurrectionist siege just two weeks ago.
