Emergency alert sent to Ontario residents about stay-at-home order in effect

The Ministry of the Solicitor General is issuing a reminder to Ontario residents Thursday through the Alert Ready broadcast system connected to cellular networks, radio and T.V. stations, that the province is under a stay-at-home order.

The alert text stating, “A stay-at-home order is in effect. Only leave home for essential purposes such as food, healthcare, exercise or work. It’s the law. Stay home, stay safe, save lives. Learn more at Ontario.ca/covidresponse.”

This comes after the Ford government announced the stay-at-home order would be in effect Thursday, January 14th at 12:01 a.m.

The order requires Ontarians to stay home, except for essential outings.

Essential outings include accessing health care, shopping for groceries, or outdoor exercise.

The province says the alert will be active on TVs and radios for 15 minutes, and cellphones for five hours.
