Freezing drizzle makes for tricky, frustrating conditions in southern Ontario

Toronto is expected to see a gradual warmup into the weekend with temperatures hovering around -plus 3. Todd Diemer

With a rather cold and cloudy start to 2021, the rest of the week will leave Ontarians feeling sun-starved and looking for some good news on the weather front.

Unfortunately, it won’t be coming anytime soon.

Periods of freezing drizzle are prompting multiple advisories across a large chunk of southern Ontario as Hamilton, Halton-Peel, and York-Durham are among the regions in the GTA currently under a ‘Freezing Rain Advisory.’

“Surfaces such as highways, roads, walkways, and parking lots may become icy and slippery. Freezing drizzle can produce thin, hard-to-detect layers of ice,” Environment Canada says in the advisory.

“Take extra care when walking or driving in affected areas.”

Multiple reports of icy roads and sidewalks have been received.

For Toronto, mostly cloudy conditions will persist through Wednesday as temperatures slowly increase into the weekend.
