Ontario reports record-high COVID-19 cases for 3rd straight day

Ontario is reporting a record-high 1,925 new cases of COVID-19 on Monday.
The province surpassed the previous record, reported the day before, by a single case. This is the third straight day the province has reported a record case count.
The tally is essentially the same as the previous day but it comes with a significant decrease in completed tests. The province had reported nearly 60,000 completed tests the last two days. That numbers is down to nearly 45,300 completed tests on Monday.
The rolling seven day average of cases has now gone over the 1,800 mark.
The province is reporting 26 new deaths as a result of the virus. Of the reported deaths, 13 come from residents of long-term care homes. Homes in the province report another 71 cases among residents and 17 cases among workers.
There are 1,412 more resolved cases.
There is now a total of 129,234 confirmed cases in the province since the onset of the pandemic with 3,798 deaths. Of the confirmed cases 16,034 are active and 109,402 have been resolved.
Among active cases, 725 people are currently in the hospital. Among the hospitalized, 213 are in the ICU and 121 are on ventilators.
Nearly half of all new cases in the province come from people under the age of 40.
Locally, there are 601 new cases in Toronto, 512 in Peel, 167 in York Region and 133 in Durham.
Toronto and Peel both saw an increase in new cases from the previous day. York Region saw a significant decrease from the 249 reported on Sunday. Durham reports over 100 cases for the second straight day.
Overall the GTA reports 1,467 new cases compared to 1,449 on Sunday.
COVID-19 in schools
The province reported 138 new cases in schools.
Among the new cases in schools, 109 are related to students, while 29 are linked to staff.
Over 16 percent of schools in the province currently have a reported case of the virus. Ten schools in Ontario are currently closed as a result of COVID-19.
